Let me know if writing copy isn't the best use of your time or talents, and I'll do it instead*. Once I know exactly what you want, I'll come up with a schedule and a quote for delivering it on time and within your budget.

If you have existing copy that needs improving, your requirements will still be unique to you, but read on and you may recognise the essentials of the service you're likely to need...

Basic Proofread

For copy that is basically sound: minor typographical, spelling and grammatical errors corrected with further inconsistencies, omissions etc. highlighted

Intensive Proofread

For copy that requires more detailed amendments to grammar, spelling, consistency etc.: all errors corrected and editorial lapses highlighted

Copy-edit

For copy that needs a lot of attention in order to become error-free, clear and engaging: as intensive proofread, but sentence and paragraph structure also checked and clarifications or improvements suggested

Included in each of the above, if required, is feedback on how to improve your output next time around...

How do we go about this...?

We can work entirely over the internet and phone, for handling the job and for organising payment. This is often most convenient and cost-effective for clients. But sometimes it's just better by far to meet face to face, and if that's true for you, we'll arrange something. My base is in West Yorkshire, UK, and I'll travel as far as the job is large!

If it's a proofreading or editing job on paper, you choose whether I use standard proofreading symbols or plain English.

If the copy is to be handled electronically, please mention your software of choice to me at the outset. If you are using Microsoft Word, I can use Track Changes; if it's Adobe software, I'll use the Comments option.

*...assuming you aren't a student or in any other position where your output really needs to be your own work! In such a case, my proofreading or copy-editing service would be available to you, along with advice on how to improve your use of language.
